The First Golden Age Of Television - 1278 Words
Sixth Response In the first golden age, there was no gold. In fact, there was no color, only black and white. The first golden age of television occurred in the nineteen-fifties and the gold was quite humble on the surface. Because the shows were about local police, cowboys and housewives. However, these wholesome programs acted like an awl, digging deep into the national psyche, bringing out something truly valuable and sought after by everyone. These shows exemplified the feelings of a nation and gave everyone a model to follow and a dream to chase. There are many who say that the turn of the century marked the second golden age of television. This carries into the present day, with television drama and streaming services allowing anâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦Bezzerides holds her own in a male dominated police force. Most of her early interactions with males puts her on top, dominating males at their own perceived games of strength, coldness and tact. Examples of this include an early meeting with her father where tells her father he failed her, engaging in casual sex and refusing to accept emotional advances from anyone. Later during the show, Bezzerides goes undercover at a sex party to find evidence towards who killed the corrupt city official. During the process of being groomed to enter, she is forced to ingest MDMA. A repressed childhood memory surfaces during advances by an older male. It is a bearded face of a man, who stayed at her fatherââ¬â¢s spiritual retreat when she was a child. This man called her pretty and lured in into his VW van to proceed to sexually abused her for two days in a cave. It is here that the Freudian personality themes emerge In Bezzerides interactions. Shortly after escaping the party, Bezzerides makes love to another protagonist, after which she is further able to explore the repressed memory. Recalling that she felt proud that her abuser thought she was pretty. Her anger at the male aggressor and her father was repressed because it was damaging to her ego. In effort to protect herself the sexual feelings and aggression were displaced and sublimated though working a dominating career.
